About Us
The PieFace Column is a messy stream of collective introspection. We value narratives and firsthand emotional accounts, and in turn hope to widen the scope of connection through storytelling.
Background and Mission
The word "pieface" was a slang term for an "extraordinarily pretty girl" that gained popularity in the '20s, but its connotations began to shift in the late '90s. Today, it implies that whoever is called a pieface has a round, flat, and plain face. It was chosen as the column's name out of fondness for the term and its multiple facets.
PieFace is a creative outlet that was born out of J. Faith Malicdem's frustration regarding the lack of writing opportunities for aspiring journalists and writers in her high school community. Today, we hope to provide a platform and community for storytellers of all kinds.
